Hi, I'm Cameron. Boulder born, Los Angeles based.
I've always been a builder. Growing up, my home was a constant work in progress. My parents have spent the last 35 years adding, subtracting, and iterating, and I learned to swing a hammer right alongside them. That hands-on ethos became part of who I am. I few stand out projects come to mind from my youth - converting the old family lawn mower into a go-kart. Building a silk screen press out of 2x4s, angle iron, and trampoline springs to start a clothing company with some friends. Building a dance studio with my crew in a warehouse that used to be an auto body shop.
Early in life I thought I wanted to be an architect, but as my high school career came to an end, architecture school wasn't a fit for my life, so I pivoted to studying graphic design. One semester in, I quickly realized that wasn't my path. I took a year off to regroup, transferred to the business school, and started to find my stride. A data analytics elective gave me a new set of tools, and suddenly I had a career direction. As I worked my way through school, I found myself with a variety of odd jobs; folding clothes in back stock at American Apparel, hauling boxes and furniture around town for a moving company, and keeping the locals caffeinated at Ozo Coffee. My favorite of all was working the late-night weekend shift at Mike's Hot Dog Stand on Pearl Street (a Boulder staple), ensuring the bar crowd was well fed for three years running.
After graduation, and many years in the bubble of Boulder, I made my way west to Los Angeles to start the rest of my life. I found a job, then a little bungalow on the west side, then a beautiful woman who'd become my wife. Together we've established LA roots, bought and sold a few houses - each one a bigger project than the last, said goodbye to a dog and welcomed a new one into our life, enjoyed high high's and weathered low low's. During the pandemic we left the heart of city to be closer to nature and have the space to build our own oasis.
And that brings us to today, reflecting on the journey that brought me to this moment. If there's a through line I can draw that across my life thus far - whether I'm building a dashboard at work, a project around the house, a life with my wife, a new bike, or a model in architecture class, I'm simply happiest when I'm building.
